Terminal Bud: Also called "apical bud," it is the bud located on the outermost tip of a twig.

Terminal Leaflet(s): The final leaflet or leaflets at the outermost tip of a pinnately compound leaf. (See also lateral leaflets)

Terminal Line: In Lepidoptera, the outermost of the wing lines located near the outer margin.

Transpiration: The process of evaporative water loss through surface structures in plants. Transpiration occurs primarily in the stomata of leaves and the lenticels of stems.

Type Genus: In taxonomy, a genus that is the basis for the name of its family, subfamily, or tribe.

Sphinx kalmiae

Laurel sphinx (Sphinx kalmiae)

Sphinx is the type genus for the tribe Sphingini, the subfamily Sphinginae and the family Sphingidae.

Type Species: Also called “nominal species,” in taxonomy, the species that is the basis for the description of its genus or subgenus. Taxonomists consider type species permanently attached to the genus or subgenus to which they belong.
