Etymology

Xylophanes: Combines the Greek words xylon meaning “wood” and phanes meaning “to appear” or “appear to be.”

Overview

Xylophanes is a New World genus of moths with around 100 species mostly occurring in Central and South America. North America is home to four species of Xylophanes, only one of which is found in Indiana.
