Etymology

Semioscopis: Combines the Greek semeion, meaning “signal,” “mark,” or “symbol” with Latin copis, meaning “short curved sword.”

Semioscopis is a small genus of moths in the subfamily Depressariinae. The genus is distributed across North America east of the Rocky Mountains, and into Central America and the northern part of South America.
