Etymology

Pseudothyatira: The genus name is derived from the Greek pseudes meaning “false” and Thyatira which is a closely related genus within the same subfamily. Thus, “false Thyatira.”

cymatophoroides: Cymatophor is a monotypic genus of moths in the family Geometridae. The standard taxonomic suffix of oides is given to a species that resembles another taxa. Thus, cymatophoroides means “resembles Cymatophor.”
