Based on field marks alone, most experts agree that members of genus Pigritia are impossible to identify beyond the genus level. Accurate species identification requires either DNA analysis or genital dissection. Currently, at least three species have been documented in the Midwest: Pigritia fidella, P. laticapitella, and P. murtfeldtella. The individuals featured on this page were unable to be identified beyond genus Pigritia.
