Overview

Oreta is a relatively large genus of moths with all but two species limited to eastern Asia. The rose hooktip moth Oreta rosea is the only species of Oreta that is found in North America.

The range of one Asian species of Oreta (O. jaspidea) includes Queensland Australia.
The rose hooktip (Oreta rosea) is present in the eastern and midwestern parts of United States and as far west as Texas and Oklahoma and into Canada.
There are over 50 recognized junior subjective synonyms for various old-world Oreta species.
