Eacles: Unknown

Imperialis: Latin for “of the empire.”

Overview

Eacles is a New World genus of silkworm moths in the family Saturniidae. Most are native to South and Central America.

aOnly two species of Eacles are found in the United States: Oslar’s Eacles (Eacles oslari) in the extreme southwest, and Imperial Moth (Eacles imperialis) in most of the eastern United States.

Type Species

Eacles imperialis, first described in 1773 by Dru Drury as Phalaena imperialis.
