Etymology

Dryocampa: Combines the Greek dryo for “oak tree” and campa for “caterpillar,” to mean “oak caterpillar.”

Dryocampa is a monotypic New World genus of silkworm moths in the family Saturniidae.

Type Species

Dryocampa rubicunda, first described in 1793 by Johan Christian Fabricius as Bombyx rubicunda.
