Coleophora: Combines the Greek words koleós, meaning “sheath” and phora meaning “bearer or carrier.”

deauratella: Combines the Latin word deaurate, meaning “gilded,” with the suffix ella for “small.”

Coleophora limosipennella Sightings by Month

Coleophora deauratella is native to Europe, eastern Siberia, and portions of the Middle East. Introduced to North America in the 1960's, it is considered an agricultural pest and officially listed as an invasive species by two states and two Canadian provinces (Cottrell 2018).
